Night Sky Scavenger Hunt Free Printable
Cassiopeia . . . check! We’re off to a great start on our annual spring night sky scavenger hunt. I love to hear “Hey, we know these!” as they scramble to be first to spot a favorite. It began years ago with a simple “find five things” that has now evolved into “find five moons, find five planets, find five constellations, and find five stars”. It’s our “four by five” plan for the springtime night sky. And my 3rd grader smartly states, “That’s 20 items, Mom.”
Night Sky in Spring
The moon phases pace this scavenger hunt, so plan at least a couple of weeks. While finding the five constellations and the five stars in one evening is possible, viewing the five planets often requires post-sunset and pre-sunrise viewing. Watch for the daylight moon near first and last quarter phases. Our recommendation is to enjoy this activity all spring!
